TESTIMONIALS:
From a discussion with Professor Ray A. Craddick, Ph.D, ABPP:
"Mr. Gold, yours is the best DVD I've viewed on the subject of grief."

And from a letter to Dr. David Crenshaw, his former student (published with permission):

"Dear David,
We just now received your most excellent video on "Grief", and immediately played it. Thank you so very much for sending this superb gift to us. You are to be congratulated on a marvelous work! Words cannot adequately describe how proud I am of you, nor can they reflect how much you have given to others in this presentation! You are a brilliant, knowledgeable, wise, seasoned and reflective person, David. Your warmth and compassion are evidenced within a few moments of watching this video. Oh how fortunate are the children and others to whom you have imparted all of this! Norene and I sat spellbound during your entire presentation.
David, we did not know about your older brother, or what you went through with his loss. Thank you for sharing that with us and others who will see and hear your DVD."
--Ray A. Craddick, Ph.D, ABPP
Director of the Clinical Psychology Training Program (ret.),
Georgia State University, Atlanta, GA

"Without question, this was the best mental health "advice" DVD that I have ever seen. The DVD offers a wealth of practical advice in the context of a thoughtful, comprehensive, theoretical framework. Perhaps as importantly, Dr.Crenshaw and Ms. Rubin come across as compassionate, caring, sincere, helping professionals whose genuine concern about children is contagious. I consider this DVD to be must-see viewing for all helping professionals who deal with grieving children and also for families with children who have suffered a significant loss."

"Michael Gold has recently added a sorely needed video addition, "GRIEF: How to Help children Feel, Deal & Heal", to the armamentarium of any health worker, counselor, or educator confronted with the onerous task of guiding a child through the painful experience of loss, acceptance and closure. Bereavement issues are the most profound, and, as such, our society has yet to really break the ice in clarity and sensible avenues. As Medical Director at Vassar Brothers Hospital, I see many instances of loss in obstetrics and pediatrics, and our well-trained social service staff and nursing staff are well acquainted with these situations. Yet, the packet of literature seems distant in comparison to the warm, humane empathy we witness on this DVD. It will be my hope that we can make this video readily available to facilitate the grieving process in our patients. Thank you Michael Gold, Dr. Crenshaw and Mrs. Rubin, for this gift to our families." --Lewis Sellinger, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.
Diplomate, American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology
and Medical Director,
Vassar Brothers Hospital Care Center, Poughkeepsie, NY

"As a former Special Assistant to the Board of Education of the City of New York, and elementary school teacher, I feel that the DVD "GRIEF" should be placed in every school and in every guidance counselor's office. Its information in helping grieving children in the classroom and at home is both sensitive and invaluable. I only wish this DVD was available when I was teaching."-- Gilbert Millstein, First VP, Salomon Smith Barney and Associate Trustee of the International Chemotherapy Foundation, NYC

"As a teacher, I, too, have faced numerable situations in 25 years in a classroom where a child comes to school immersed in sadness. It was wonderful watching Phyllis Rubin and listening to her expert advice as a 37 year veteran of teaching. Your DVD clearly provides invaluable advice for parents and other caregivers on how to intelligently and compassionately deal with all the difficult decisions parents face when children are grieving from a deep loss.
With the help of Dr. Crenshaw and Phyllis Rubin you have created a sensitive and in-depth project that is so sorely needed by everyone whose life is directly involved with children."
-- Arlene Hussey, 5th Grade Teacher, Benjamin Cosor Elementary School, Fallsburg, NY

"...I have been on an emotional rollercoaster since my parents died. My daughter was 15 months old when my father died. I tried to do my crying  in private, yet she sensed my grief. She clung to me and cried for many nights. Her behavior was so out of character.... Dr. Crenshaw addressed the issue of very young children sensing that things are seriously wrong when a family member dies...now I understand, after viewing "GRIEF",  why my daughter was so upset.  This video should be in every home. Anyone who suffers a loss can learn from and feel comforted viewing this video."-- Leslie Levine, Ellenville, NY

"This is simply the finest grieving DVD I have ever seen. It is an informative, sensitive, warm and useful DVD for working with children (and adults as well) who are going through the grieving process. Dr. Crenshaw and Mrs. Rubin come across as caring, loving and knowledgeable professionals. I highly recommend that this DVD be used by everyone in the mental health field and in the teaching profession."- Ellie Cohen, C.S.W., M.S.W. Woodridge NY

"This is a thoughtful and insightful video which illustrates through stories and examples how to deal with various stages and kinds of grief. I believe it can be an invaluable tool in helping parents and teachers understand how students of all ages grieve." - Marcia Schwarz,
Assistant Superintendent, Sullivan County, NY BOCES

"This is an excellent didatic video that consists of two major parts. In the first part, David Crenshaw, Clinical Director of the Astor Home for Children, offers an overall theoretical framework for understanding the grief of children. The second part, featuring an elementary school teacher- Phyllis Rubin, offers suggestions for helping the grieving child within a classroom setting. The video offers much useful information and would be a valued tool in educating teachers on grief issues. The fact that it has two distinct parts is an asset for instructors who may wish to use one part, or two parts at different times."- Dr. Kenneth Doka, Ph.D., ABPP, Poughkeepsie, NY

"Sometimes worse than dealing with your own aching pain at the loss of a loved one is seeing that pain reflected in a child’s eyes. Dr. David Crenshaw, author, of Bereavement: Counseling the Grieving Throughout the Life Cycle, and Phyllis L. Rubin, an elementary school teacher with 37 years of experience, offer advice to parents and other adults who are helping children deal with death. Dr. Crenshaw discusses the seven stages of grief, the different ways children of various ages grieve, understanding post-traumatic play, relieving guilt, using metaphors and stories, and helping children heal and find closure. Ms. Rubin counsels viewers on how classmates should welcome back a grieving friend to school, addresses grieving for pets, and discusses religious beliefs and funeral customs. The DVD is comforting, but somber to watch (although any attempt at glitz and pizzazz would have been tasteless), and should be a real aid to adults reaching out to grieving children.
Highly recommended."

"This title offers helpful information for dealing with a difficult issue"
"Adult. A bereavement counselor and a veteran teacher are interviewed in this program aimed at adults (parents, teachers, and others) who work or live with children who are grieving. The bereavement counselor discusses various stages of grieving as he explains how young children often grieve in small increments, express their grief through inappropriate behavior, and handle grief differently than adolescents. Simple suggestions, such as using a direct approach to explain death, rather than euphemisms, and to encourage children to express their feelings are most helpful. A teacher then offers suggestions to help children return to the classroom. While not particularly flashy and perhaps a bit lengthy, this title nevertheless offers helpful information for dealing with a difficult issue. (pp)"

"Mr. Gold has recently produced a DVD on the evaluation and management of grief reactions in children. He has made it with the same affection and thoroughness which were characteristic of his prior productions. Each of the two professionals he interviews, one a clinician and the other a classroom teacher, is permitted here to present a series of useful observations based on long and intensive familiarity with grieving children. I believe this DVD can be usefully viewed, not only by clinicians and teachers interested in these issues, but by the children who have suffered such losses, and who will find themselves understood." --William M. Tucker, M.D., Director, Bureau of Psychiatric Services, N.Y.S. Psychiatric Institute, State of New York Office of Mental Health, NYC
